Our Mission

The Hedgerows aspires to be a learning ecosystem that creates safe spaces for young people to be their full selves, connects them to learning opportunities within their own communities, and assists them in documenting their learning in ways that will best help them achieve their own goals for the future.

We create small, joyful, multi-age learning communities called Home Bases, in which young people feel safe, supported, and respected, allowing them to learn to their full potential.

We network with a variety of Learning Hubs and Field Sites within our communities, where our learners can take classes and workshops, conduct research, complete projects, and explore and serve their communities in ways that match their interests.

We specialize in learners who need different experiences than traditional schools can offer. Our learners spend their days making choices about what to do next, getting messy, making friends, diving deeply into subjects of interest, learning real-world skills, working at jobs and internships, and preparing portfolios and public exhibitions.

We believe that the most effective way to change the world is to raise kind and courageous humans.
